to travel with us.

THE EXPERIENCE

The people, the pace, and how we travel.

  • Our trips are small, thoughtfully planned, and built around getting to know a place through its people, food, traditions, and stories.

    That might mean cooking in someone's home, spending an afternoon with a local artist, eating somewhere we never would have found on our own, or simply having enough time to slow down and take in where we are.

    We take care of the logistics and build the framework for the trip, while leaving enough room for spontaneity, free time, and the unexpected moments that often become the best part.

  • Curious travelers are welcome.

    People join our trips solo, with a partner, with friends, with siblings, and occasionally with someone who started as a coworker and somehow became their favorite travel companion.

    You don't need to know anyone before you come. If you're curious about the places you visit, open to meeting new people, and comfortable being part of a small group, you'll fit right in.

  • Not at all. Solo travelers are a big part of small group travel, and you won't be the odd one out for showing up on your own.

    You'll have people to share meals and experiences with throughout the trip, along with time to yourself when the itinerary allows.

    For trips with shared accommodations, solo travelers are paired with another solo traveler of the same gender. We'll connect you with your roommate before the trip so you can say hello before you arrive.

  • Our trips typically have between 2 and 10 travelers.

    Keeping the groups small makes it easier to move through a place, spend meaningful time with the people we meet, eat at smaller restaurants, and experience things that simply wouldn't work with a large group.

    It also means you'll actually get to know the people you're traveling with.

  • Accommodations vary by destination and are always listed on the individual trip page before you book.

    Depending on the trip, we may stay in comfortable hotels, boutique properties, or locally owned guesthouses that give us a good home base for exploring.

    Rooms are typically shared with one other traveler. If you're booking with someone, you'll room together. Solo travelers will be paired with another solo traveler of the same gender, and we'll connect you before the trip.

Deposits, payments and
the practical stuff

BOOKING YOUR TRIP

Everything you need to know about reserving your spot, what’s included, what’s not, and what happens if plans change.

  • It varies slightly from trip to trip, so you'll always find the exact inclusions on the individual trip page.

    Generally, your trip includes:

    • Accommodations

    • Transportation during scheduled trip activities

    • Airport transfers when listed in the itinerary

    • Meals listed in the itinerary

    • Scheduled experiences, activities, and entrance fees

    • Your Fisheye Journeys trip leader throughout the trip

    We intentionally don't include every meal. Having some free time means you can wander into a restaurant that catches your eye, go back somewhere you loved, or simply decide what you're in the mood for that day.

    Alcohol is not included unless specifically noted.

  • Unless a trip page says otherwise, you should plan to cover:

    • Flights to and from the destination

    • Travel insurance

    • Visa or country entry fees, if required

    • Excess baggage fees

    • Alcohol unless specifically included

    • Souvenirs

    • Personal expenses and other incidentals

  • A $600 non-refundable deposit per person reserves your place on the trip.

    The remaining balance is due no later than 45 days before departure. If you book within 45 days of departure, the full trip cost is due when you book.

    Payments are made by credit card unless otherwise specified.

  • We know plans can change, but because our trips involve advance commitments to hotels, guides, hosts, and other local partners, cancellation fees apply.

    Your $600 deposit is non-refundable.

    If you cancel 45 days or more before departure, your deposit and any expenses already incurred on your behalf will be retained. Any remaining payments you've made will be refunded.

    If you cancel 44 days or less before departure, the full trip cost is non-refundable.

    Cancellations must be submitted in writing and acknowledged by Fisheye Journeys.

  • Travel doesn't always go according to plan. Flights get delayed, luggage disappears, people get sick, and sometimes circumstances mean you can't take a trip at all.

    Travel insurance is required for every Fisheye Journeys traveler. Your policy must include coverage for personal accidents, death, medical expenses, and emergency repatriation.

    We strongly recommend purchasing your policy within 10 days of paying your deposit, particularly if you're considering time-sensitive coverage such as Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR).

    Proof of insurance must be provided no later than 45 days before departure.

OTHER WAYS TO TRAVEL

Whether you’re looking for a trip built just for your group or wondering how a Fisheye Journey compares with planning it yourself, here’s what to know.

  • Yes. If you have your own group and want the Fisheye experience without joining one of our scheduled departures, we can create a private trip around your group.

    Private trips can be tailored around the destination, timing, group size, and the kinds of experiences you're interested in.

  • Absolutely. Independent travel can often cost less.

    A Fisheye Journey is a different kind of experience. Your accommodations, transportation, local guides, many meals, and experiences are planned for you, and your trip is hosted from beginning to end.

    Many of the people and places we visit also come from relationships we've built through years of traveling and leading trips. You're not simply paying for an itinerary. You're joining a small group experience built around local knowledge, meaningful connections, and the freedom to enjoy the trip without planning every detail yourself.
